The Yellow-faced Grassquit is distributed in Central America, the West Indies, Colombia and Venezuela. It is found in semi-open and grassy areas where it feeds mainly on seeds.

It has a bright orange eyebrow and throat patch surrounded by a black patch on the breast. The female, seen in photo 3, is much duller with a pale yellow eyebrow and throat and with no black on the breast.
