The White-faced Pintail is distributed in South America and the Caribbean mainly close to the coast where they are to be found in both fresh and saltwater ponds and lagoons. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

At a distance its distinguishing feature is the snowy white face and throat. It also has red on the bill.
