Janeiro, Brazil November 2008 Uniform Finch is found in south-east Brazil from southern Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo to Rio Grande do Sul and in adjacent areas of eastern Paraguay and north-eastern Argentina. It is found in the undergrowth of Atlantic Rain Forest especially near bamboo and can become common when the bamboo is flowering as in this case. |

The male, shown here, is
uniform grey with a sharply pointed conical bill. It can be
confused with Sooty
Grassquit Tiaris fuliginosa but note the lack of
colouring around the gape and the reddish rather than black
legs. The female is olive-brown above with pale, streaked underparts. There is a distribution map on NatureServe and additional information on Avibase and Wikiaves. The male has an explosive, buzzy song. |
