The Sulphur-bellied Tyrant-manakin is distributed in eastern Peru, northern and central Bolivia and adjacent western Brazil. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is normally found in seasonally flooded forest but in this area of Peru it is found in semideciduous shrubs and poor soil ridges up to 450 metres. It is often associated with bamboo thickets.
