|Spangled Cotinga (Cotinga cayana)
|The Spangled Cotinga is distributed throughout the Amazon and Orinoco basins and into the Guianas. It is found in humid forest and woodland where it is usually seen in the canopy or at the edges.|
|The male, as seen in these photos, is a bright turquoise blue with black showing through in places, mostly black wings and tail and a large throat and upper breast patch of bright magenta purple.
The female is dark greyish brown above with a scaly effect. This is also seen on the throat and breast while the rest of the undreparts are paler.
|There are illustrations in Ridgely & Tudor, Volume 2, Plate 50, and in Hilty & Brown, Plate 34.|
