The Slender-billed Kite is distributed along the Amazon and Orinoco and its tributaries, at the Darien Gap and along the coast of Venezuela and the Guianas. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in seasonally flooded forest, várzea and swampy forest.

The iris is whitish, the bill slender and sharply hooked and the cere, lores and eyering are orange-red.
