The Short-tailed Woodstar is distributed in south-west Ecuador and north-west Peru. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in desert scrub up to 1,200 metres.

A very small hummingbird with a very short tail. The wing-tips extend beyond the tail. This photo is of a female which is buffy white below. The male has a purple gorget.
