The Saturnine Antshrike is distributed in west and central Amazonia but only south of the Amazon River. It is found in the lower levels of mainly terra firme forest.

This male is an overall grey colour with a black patch on the throat and upper chest. The female is olive-brown with a whitish throat.

They are usually found in pairs accompanying mixed understorey flocks.
