The Rufous-rumped Seedeater is distributed patchily in south-west Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina and, probably, Paraguay. It is usually in mixed seedeater flocks and this bird was in tall grass beside a roadside marsh.

Rufous-rumped Seedeater, Vila Bela de Santíssima Trindade, Mato Grosso, Brazil, March 2003 - click for larger image It looks very like Tawny-bellied Seedeater Sporophila hypoxantha but the grey on the upperparts is noticeably more bluish and the underparts are a deeper chestnut.
