The Ruddy-breasted Seedeater is distributed along the Pacific coast of Mexico and Central America into Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago and northern Brazil as far as the mouth of the Amazon. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is found in savannas and pastures.

Female Ruddy-breasted Seedeater, Otun-Quimbaya, Risaralda, Colombia, April 2012 - click for larger image The male has an entirely grey head with rufous underparts and rump. Photo 2 shows what I believe is a female of the species. One is never sure with female Sprophilas but I believe that Ruddy-breasted Seedeater is one of the few Sprophilas in the OtĂșn-Quimbaya area. It might conceivably be a female Slate-coloured Seedeater S. schistacea.
