The Rock Shag is distributed around the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the south of South America as well as in the Falklands.

The face is red and, in breeding plumage, there is a white patch on the ear-coverts which is just visible on photo 1. Photo 2 shows an immature with a dirty white breast and belly.
