The Red-capped Manakin is distributed from the Yucatan Peninsula in south-east Mexico through mainly the Caribbean slope of Central America to western Colombia and western Ecuador. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in humid forest and secondary growth mostly below 500m.
