Mato Grosso, Brazil The Purplish Jay is distributed in south-central South America from south-east Peru through Bolivia and Paraguay into south-west Brazil and northern Argentina. It is found in deciduous and gallery woodland as well as nearby scrub. |

It is the dullest South American Jay being drab purple in colour with black head and chest. They are noisy and conspicuous usually moving in groups of about 6. There are illustrations in Ridgely & Tudor, Volume 1, Plate 1. |
