The Puna Miner is distributed in the altiplano region of southern Peru, western Bolivia, northern Chile and north-west Argentina. It is found mainly between 3,200m and 4,600m on puna grassland and sandy areas beside bofedal marsh. This bird was at about 4,400m.

Puna Miner, Lauca NP, Chile, February 2007 - click for larger image It is a smallish miner with a slender, almost straight bill. It is similar to the local sub-species of Common Miner Geositta cunicularia titicacae but has whiter underparts with no streaking on the breast, is smaller and has a duller face pattern.
