The Oriole Blackbird is a striking, large bird found in marshy open areas, gallery woodland and especially on Amazonian river islands such as Marchantaria.

Oriole Blackbird, Marchantaria Island, Amazonas, Brazil, July 2001 - click for larger image It is mainly bright yellow with black back, wings and tail. It has a black mask round the eyes and a short black malar stripe.

It is found in north-east Colombia, north Venezuela and along the Amazon and its major tributaries up to Peru and Ecuador. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.
