The Olive-backed Euphonia is distributed in Central America from southern Mexico to north-west Panama. See the distribution map at NatureServe. It is found in lowland forest and forest clearings where it feeds mainly on small berries.

Olive-backed Euphonia, Pico Bonito, Honduras, March 2015 - click on image for a larger view The male has a yellow forehead as in photos 1 and 2 while the female in photo 3 has a rufous forehead. Upperparts are olive-green while underparts from the lower breast and belly to the undertail coverts are rufous in the male but this colour is restricted to the vent and undertail coverts in the female.
