The Olivaceous Elaenia is distributed in south-east Brazil from southern Goiás and into northern Uruguay, north-east Argentina and eastern Paraguay. It is found in forest and forest edges up to about 2,000 metres.

Olivaceous Elaenia, Itatiaia, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, November 2008 - click for larger image It is very similar to Small -billed Elaenia E. parvirostris but is more olive on the greyish breast, rarely has white on the crown and never has a third white wing-bar on the lesser coverts. Also the white eye-ring is less pronounced.
