The Oasis Hummingbird is distributed west of the Andes in Peru and the extreme north of Chile. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in oases, gardens and dry grasslands.

The male, seen here in photos 1 to 3, has a long, decurved bill and a long, forked tail. It is green above with a cinnamon rump. The gorget is purple-red with blue sides when visible as in photo 3 and there is a small white spot behind the eye.

The female, seen in photos 4 to 7, lacks the gorget and has a shorter tail.

The distribution map shows a disjunct population in central Chile not mentioned in either HBW  or Jaramillo & Burke and a less widespread distribution in northern Chile.
