The Rio de Janeiro Greenlet is found in south-east Brazil from southern Bahia to Rio de Janeiro. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. The HBW and Birdlife International checklist has split this from Lemon-chested Greenlet H. griseiventris on the basis of several morphological and vocal differences. |

It is found in humid forest and forest edges and can also be found in more scrubby habitats.
The two striking features of this bird are its white to pale yellow iris and the broad yellow-olive band across its chest. It is bright olive above with a grey nape and chin. The bill and the legs are grey unlike the Lemon-bellied Greenlet where they are pnkish-grey. |
