Hoffman's Woodcreeper has a fairly limited distribution south of the Amazon between the rio Madeira and the rio Tapajós. It is usually found in the interior of humid forest but is occasionally seen at the edges.

Hoffman's Woodcreeper, Borba, Amazonas, Brazil, August 2004 - click for larger image I'm afraid that these photos, taken at 5:30 pm in failing light, are rather poor but they show the straight blackish bill and the brown to rufous-chestnut upperparts.

It is one of the woodcreepers that follows antswarms.
