The Green-fronted Lancebill is distributed in Costa Rica and Panama and the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in the undergrowth and borders of forest between 1,000 and 2,500 metres so at a higher elevation than Blue-fronted Lancebill D. johannae.

It is a trapline feeder and, as its bill suggests, it feeds on flowers with large, hanging corollas.
