Brazil and Chile

The Grassland Yellow-finch is distributed from Mexico, through Central America and into several areas in South America. There may well be more than one species involved. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in tall grassland and beside marshes.

It is olive-brown above with dark streaks on the crown and back. It is bright yellow round the eyes and on the lores. Below it is yellow with olive on the breast. These photos are of the sub-species S. l. luteiventris.

The birds in photo 1 were recorded by Jeremy Minns.
