The Golden-crowned Warbler is distributed in Brazil and Bolivia south of the Amazon Basin and into adjacent areas of Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay with a disjunct population in Venezuela. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. |

It is found low down in forest, woodland and shrubby edges where it is often seen flicking its wing and cocking
its tail. The orange-rufous crown can be hard to see. It is bordered by black stripes and a whitish superciliary. Underparts are yellow. |

The HBW and Birdlife International checklist has split B. culicivorus into 3 species: Golden-crowned Warbler B. auricapilla, Stripe-crowned Warbler B. culicivorus of Central America and Yellow-crowned Warbler B. cabanisi of Colombia and Venezuela.
