The Fulvous Whistling-duck is distributed in the Americas from southern USA to northern Argentina; in Africa south of the Sahara and in India and Burma.

We saw some very large flocks in Rio Grande do Sul almost always in association with White-faced Whistling Duck D. viduata one of which is in the foreground of the first photo.

They feed by dabbling on vegetation and seem particularly fond of rice.
