It is generally rufous in colour with dark brown wings and white streaks on the lower flanks. We saw some very large flocks in Rio Grande do Sul almost always in association with White-faced Whistling Duck D. viduata one of which is in the foreground of the first photo. They feed by dabbling on vegetation and seem particularly fond of rice. |
