The Eared Pygmy-tyrant is endemic to the Atlantic Forest of south east Brazil and adjacent Paraguay and Argentina. It is normally found at forest edges and clearings.

Notable features are the cinnamon-buff area around the eye, the grey head and neck, black spot around the ear and the underpart streaking and colouring that can be seen in the first photo.
