The Deep-blue Flowerpiercer is distributed along the east slope of the Andes from southern Colombia through Ecuador and Peru and into central Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in cloud forest at between 1,000 and 2,300 metres.

It is the only flowerpiercer with a yellow eye.
