The Crested Bobwhite is a member of the New World Quail family and is found from Panama to the Guianas, in Colombia, Venezuela and the north of Brazil.

It is an open country bird of savanna, woodland edges and roadsides but its distinctive trisyllabic call is probably heard more often than it is seen.

The bird in photo 1 was recorded by Jeremy Minns.
