Brazil The Common Tern breeds in the northern hemisphere and winters in the southern hemisphere. North American breeders winter in South America. In its wintering quarters it tends to be found near the coast or up large rivers. |

In non-breeding plumage it has a black bill and blackish legs as well as a white forehead all of which makes it look quite different from its breeding plumage. | |||
