The Chilean Mockingbird is a Chilean endemic and is found up to 2,200 metres in scrubby areas, farmland and forest edge from north of Santiago to the Lake District.

Chilean Mockingbird, Cajon del Maipo, Chile, November 2005 - click for larger image It has a long, thick bill, a dark eyeline with a pale supercilium above and a white throat bordered by 2 dark stripes. The breast is buffy-grey and the flanks are streaked.

These photos are in order from south (Los Angeles) to north (Fray Jorge NP which must be close to its northern limit) with photos 2 and 3 taken in the Cajon del Maipo near Santiago. I must say that I can't notice any great difference between photo 1 and photo 4 though light does have a marked effect on photographs. The north-south difference is not noted by Jaramillo.
