Almost all authorities such as the HBW and Birdlife
International Checklist regard this as a sub-species of Barred Antshrike T. doliatus
but the Brazilian Ornithological Records Committee (CBRO) treats it as a separate species. In comparison with Barred Antshrike it has a shorter and thicker bill, a reddish iris and, on the male, an all-black crown. The female is chestnut rather than black with a heavily streaked throat and thin dark bars on the breast. |
