The Buff-breasted Tody-Tyrant is restricted to a few isolated forest ridges in north-east Brazil at altitudes of between 600 and 1,000 metres.

It is a Brazilian endemic and is classified as Vulnerable by Birdlife International .

The edges of the darkish tail are also olive-green. Around the eye, the lores, throat and breast are a buffy-pink while the remainder of the underparts are whitish to yellow. The iris is cinnamon-orange while the bill is dusky above and paler below.
