The Brown Booby is distributed around the world in tropical and sub-tropical seas. It nests on rocky islands or coral atolls but, apart from nesting and roosting it spends its life at sea where it feeds on flying fish, squid and other fish. See the distribution map at xeno-canto.

While the distribution is across the world, the fact that Brown Boobies invariably return to nest in the colony where they were born suggests that there may be a possibility of speciation and, indeed, there are some indications of plumage variation.
