The Brown-bellied Swallow is distributed in the Andes from western Venezuela to central Bolivia. See the distribution map at Birdlife International. It is found in open country mainly between 2,500 and 4,000 metres but sometimes as low as 1,800 metres.

Brown-bellied Swallow, Rio Blanco, Caldas, Colombia, April 2012 - click for larger image It is dark, shiny bluish-green above with dark brown wings and forked tail. Below it is a smoky greyish-brown. They are often seen in the same flocks as Blue-and-white Swallow Pygochelidon cyanoleuca.
