Brown-banded Puffbird (Notharchus ordii) |
||||
Brazil The Brown-banded Puffbird is a smaller (20 cms - 8") version of the White-necked Puffbird (N. macrorhynchus). It has a smaller amount of white on the forehead, brown below black on its breast band and barring on its belly. |

It seems to favour more open forest such as that growing in white sand areas and where the ground is rocky. Its scientific name comes from George Ord, an American naturalist who lived from 1781 to 1866. There are illustrations in HBW, Volume 7, Page 124; and in de Schauensee & Phelps, Plate 15. |
