The Black-capped Foliage-gleaner is distributed in south-east Brazil, eastern Paraguay and the extreme north-east of Argentina. See the distribution map at xeno-canto. It is found in the lower growth of the Atlantic Rain Forest.

The head pattern is very distinctive.
