February 2005

The Bahama Mockingbird is distributed in the Bahamas, Jamaica and the cays off the north of Cuba. It is found in coastal vegetation with shrubs, scattered trees and, especially, small palm trees of the species Coccothrinax litoralis.

It is slightly but noticeably larger than Northern Mockingbird M. polyglottus compared with which it has no white wing patch and it is streaky below. The head is also less "clean" looking and it has two thin blackish moustachial stripes.
