The Ashy-headed Goose is distributed in the south of Chile and Argentina. It is found in the forested areas of the extreme south of South America in wooded swamps and wetlands close to the Nothofagus beech forests.

It is a beautiful bird with the male and female having similar plumage but with the female being slightly smaller as can be seen in the third photo. An interesting feature is the leg colours which are black at the front and orange at the back.
