Andean Lapwing, Lauca N.P., Chile, February 2007 - click for larger image The Andean Lapwing is, not surprisingly, found in the Andes from south-west Colombia to northern Chile and north-west Argentina. See the distribution map at Birdlife International.

It inhabits puna wetlands, river banks and agricultural land at between 3,000 and 5,000 metres.
Andean Lapwing, Lauca N.P., Chile, February 2007 - click for larger image Its colouring is reminiscent of Southern Lapwing V. chilensis especially the bill, eyes and legs but it has a grey head and neck while its grey breast has a blackish line on the border with the white belly.
