The New Holland Honeyeater is distributed in south-east Australia seaward of the Great Dividing Range, in Tasmania and in south-west Australia. It is found in eucalyptus forest and woodlands, scrublands and gardens.

New Holland Honeyeater, Spreyton Arboretum, Tasmania, Australia, February 2006 - click for larger image It has a black face with a striking white eye, white eyebrow and white tufts behind the ear and on the side of the throat. It has bright yellow panels on the wings. The immature, seen in photo 4, is similar but is browner with a yellow gape and, most noticeably, a dark eye.
