The Large-billed Scrubwren is distributed in eastern Australia from Cooktown in Queensland to close to Melbourne. It is found in tropical and temperate rainforest where it forages in the lower and middle storeys often in small groups or in mixed flocks.

It has a longish, straight bill and a dark red eye in a plain, buffy face.
