Wilson's Warbler breeds in North America from Alaska to Newfoundland and south to California while it migrates in winter to the Gulf Coast of Texas, Mexico and Central America. There is a distribution map on NatureServe.

It breeds in moist woodland and forest habitats. It feeds mainly on insects but also on berries during the winter.

It is olive above and yellow below. The male has a black cap which is less distinct or absent in the female.

The song is a rapid series of chees.
