Pivot Fields, Dubai
November 2010

The Little Ringed Plover breeds across much of Europe and Asia and migrates south to Africa, the Middle East, southern China and Indonesia. The populations in India, south-east Asia and Papua New Guinea are resident all year round. There is a distribution map at Avibirds.

In the UAE it is a common breeding visitor and migrant from February to October while some, possibly this bird photographed on 6th November, overwinter. This bird shows the non-breeding plumage with the subdued pattern on the head but still showing the white collar and dark breast band. Note that the longer tail of the Little Ringed Plover projects beyond the wing-tips.
