The Waterbuck is distributed in much of Africa south of the Sahara. See the distribution map at IUCN. It is found mainly in grasslands but open forest and scrub are also used provided they are within a few kilometres of water.

Waterbuck, Mole NP, Ghana, June 2011 - click for larger image The male has large horns which are lacking in the female. The species has many sub-species but they form two groups: the Common Waterbuck and the Defassa Waterbuck. This latter is the one found in Ghana.
