The Southern Elephant Seal is widely distributed in the seas around Antarctica where it breeds on subantarctic and cold temperate islands. Individuals can be seen quite far from the breeding grounds and the folk at Pinguino de Humboldt Reserve were quite excited about this one which I assume is a female.
