The Elegant Skink is endemic to Madagascar. Skinks are a type of lizard. Most live in leaf litter or burrows and are seldom seen. This genus of skinks is diurnal and they are easily seen on the ground or on rocks.

This species is very similar to Gravenhorst's Skink T. gravenhorstii. The distinguishing feature is the orange stripe on the side of the neck.
