The Striated Laughingthrush is distributed from north-west India eastwards along the Himalayas to southern China. It is found in a variety of forest and woodland habitats mainly between 1,000 and 3,000 metres.

It eats insects, berries, seeds, flowers and leaves as can be seen in photo 3.
