The Striated Bulbul is distributed from central Nepal eastwards along the Himalayas to south China and into northern Indochina, Myanmar and Thailand.

It is found in forest and is commonest between 1,200 and 2,400 metres.

It is heavily streaked with a large crest. Olive-green above, the throat and vent are yellow as  are the lores.
