The Spotted Laughingthrush is distributed in north India along the Himalayas through Nepal and Bhutan and into south China. It is found in the undergrowth of forest and scrub and bushes mainly at between 2,100 and 3,600 metres.

Spotted Laughingthrush, Drugyel Dzong, Paro, Bhutan, March 2008 - click for larger image It is a very large laughingthrush with a distinctive pattern on the face, a black crown and white and black spots on chestnut upperparts. The throat is dark brown to black and the breast is barred while the chestnut, grey and black tail has white tips.
