The Red-faced Liocichla is distributed from Sikkim, north-east India and Bhutan to south China and southwards into Myanmar and Indochina.

It is found in the dense undergrowth of evergreen forest and in dense secondary growth. It is a bit of a skulker and can be difficult to see as it forages unobrusively for berries, seeds and insects.

It is a fairly small, brown babbler but with a crimson face, crimson wings and tail.
