The Rufous-headed Parrotbill is distributed from Sikkim and Bhutan to southern China and in northern Myanmar and Indochina.

It is closely associated with bamboo in broadleaf forest and is often difficult to see in the dense undergrowth.

It has a bright rufous head, brown upperparts and whitish underparts.
